tze chung chen

Tze-Chung Chen Profile

In 1982, Tze-Chung Chen won many titles, starting from Sapporo Tokyu Open. In many other tournaments, he had always acquired a position to compete for the championship. Soon after, he started his activity in the U.S. as well, and in 1983, he was given the Rookie of the Year title from the PGA TOUR in the U.S. In 1985, after he made a contract with ThreeBond, he won second place in the U.S. Open (Oakland Hills Country Club). At this time, Tze-Chung Chen became famous for the so-called “twice-hit chip”, but we must also remember his great achievements of winning the only double eagle in the history of the U.S. Open, as well as scoring a 65, tying the course record. He became second by a very narrow margin, but it was a moment when an Oriental player came the closest to winning the championship in a major tournament. In 1987, he won the Los Angeles Open as well as a total of five other tournaments in Japan. In 2014, he won the Kaohsiung Open (Taiwan PGA Tour) as the oldest player to win in a regular tour. In 2015, he won the Japanese senior golf tournament for the first time in its final match, Iwasaki Shiratsuyu Senior Golf Tournament. Currently, he continues to make a challenge to gain a top ranking in tours worldwide, such as in Japan, Taiwan and the U.S. At the same time, he also makes efforts to nurture young golfers at the Taiwan PGA.

She won her first title in the LPGA of Japan Tour (JLPGA), in Yokohama Tire PRGR Ladies Cup. In 2009, she made a full-scale challenge to PGA Tours in the U.S., and won three titles, including the HSBC Women's World Championship. This led to her receiving various awards such as the LPGA Tour Rookies Award and Top Money Winner. In May 2010, she ranked No. 1 in the world for the first time. From 2013, she mainly played in the JLPGA, and then won four titles in 2014, in addition to obtaining 4th place in the money winner ranking. Her legendary come-from-behind victories with 3 consecutive birdies in the Munsingwear Ladies Tokai Classic is still memorable among golf fans. From 2015, ThreeBond became her main sponsor, and she made a step forward to 3rd place in the money winner ranking. Since then, she has always been in the top-level money winner ranking, and at the same time, she put an effort on nurturing junior golfers in Korea and in Japan. In 2019, she obtained 3rd place in the money winner ranking, and also recorded the average annual stroke of 69, which is the best in all JLPGA history. Praising her achievement, she was given a JLPGA Honorable Award for the second time. In 2020, she pursues her heart’s desire of becoming the top money winner.
