Long-Term Anti-Corrosion Undercoating Agent for Car Bodies which Excels in Rust-Preventing Performance for Protection Against Salt Damage

We have been engaged in the manufacture of products for the automotive aftermarket for many years. Particularly, our undercoating agents for undercarriage anti-corrosion coating have been appreciated for more than 40 years and hold the highest share in the market.
The representative product of our undercarriage anti-corrosion coating products, Buster Series, had sold steadily because the number of automobiles in Japan had increased and the number of automobile inspections had increased.
However, the regulations were relaxed as the result of an amendment of the automobile inspection law in 1995, and the anti-corrosion coating market has declined year by year.
In recent years, in regions with heavy snowfalls, coated undercarriage parts become rusted due to frequent use of road de-icing salt.
Rust-preventive agents with a higher performance had been demanded, and we developed Three Ruster specific to rust-preventing performance.

Although Three Ruster was developed to meet the demand for measures against salt damage in coastal areas and regions with heavy snowfalls, it has recently come to be used for construction all year round, even in urban areas where the influence of snow and the sea is insignificant.

This is because car owners demand highly functional maintenance products and want to use their cars as long as possible.

The Three Ruster which was launched in 2006 was a solvent-based agent. We have developed and launched an aqueous type of Three Ruster which is more environmentally friendly.

Comparison of Performance of Rust-Preventing Agents

The most remarkable feature of solvent-based Three Ruster (hereinafter, referred to as ThreeBond 6153 Series) is the semidrying coating surface.

The main component is a highly-functional wax, and the coating has a high adhesion to the ground. Since the coating surface is semi-drying, it is resistant to cracking and peeling and it blocks the factors of rust, moisture, salt, and oxygen to protect cars from rust for a long period.

In addition, since the agents have water displacement characteristics, assembly can be performed even while the coating surfaces are wet. Because of this advantage of workability, the agents can be offered as a new means for undercoating of the whole undercarriage separately from conventional chassis coating agents.

"ThreeBond 6153 Series have been developed by combining rust preventive and crystalized wax to maximize the rust-preventing effect. The results of salt spray tests prove that rust is not caused for 1000 hours. Even if the semi-drying coating is scratched, rust will not develop from the scratches." (Takayama)

Aqueous Type: High rust-preventing performance by rigid coating and environment-friendliness

Example of application of Three Ruster

Aqueous Three Ruster (hereinafter, referred to as ThreeBond 6155B) consists of environmentally and worker-friendly aqueous acrylic emulsions. It forms a high-density thick dry coating film after drying to provide high rust-preventing performance.
The most remarkable feature of ThreeBond 6155B is that it can be applied to wheel housings under the floor, while the ThreeBond 6153 Series could only be applied there with some conditions. It is the only one-part undercoating agent which can be applied to parts treated with sealers without substrate treatment. In consideration of the environment, the container is made of a laminated material to reduce waste.

"Conventional agents were affected by the plasticizers contained in sealants, and there were the risks of inhibiting the drying of the coating or of the product rolling up during operation to spoil the appearance of the car body.
ThreeBond 6155 Series are composed to prevent the elution of plasticizers and also have the ground treatment function.
Their rust-preventing capacity is remarkably higher than those of other aqueous undercoating agents. The results of salt spray tests show that rust was not caused for 500 hours.
It is expected that they will maintain the rust-preventing effect on an actual car for about three years." (Takayama)

Three Ruster ThreeBond 6153 Series and 6155B are primarily characterized by their high rust-preventing performance.
We will pursue the improvement of the rust-preventing performance so that car owners can use their cars as long as possible. We think this is one of the technologies through which we can contribute to society.
